Shooting strolls in Paris

Setting the right mood

Above all, think about what message or emotion you want to convey through your photo shoots as each district of Paris has its own identity and charm, and you’ll need to choose the location or locations that match the style you want to give your events. photos:

  • Romantic, artistic shooting: choose Montmartre, with its staircases, cobblestones and view of the Sacré-Coeur, the quays of the Seine and intimate covered passageways.
  • Elegant, classic shooting: the Palais-Royal, Place Vendôme, Place de la Concorde and the Buren columns offer a refined aesthetic.
  • Urban and contemporary shooting: The La Défense district or the area around the François Mitterrand library, with its Haussmann façades, are recommended for a modern atmosphere and professional portraits.
  • Gentle nature shoots: Parc Monceau or the Luxembourg Gardens bring freshness and greenery, not forgetting the Buttes Chaumont Park and the Vincennes Floral Park, which offer more rural settings.
  • Fashion shoots: The Palais de Tokyo, the Trocadéro staircase, the Buren columns and the metal bridge of the Bir-Hakeim metro are ideal for graphic compositions.

For photo shoots in Paris lasting more than three hours, an itinerary will be agreed with you beforehand, so that you can change out of your clothes in an out-of-sight café or hotel.

Taking light into account

Light is a key element for Shooting-balades. In Paris, some areas are best exposed in the morning, like the right bank of the Alexandre III bridge, and others at sunset, like the quays of the Seine on the left bank. Shooting-balades will advise you on the best lighting at the chosen locations, so you can make the right choice of setting at the right time for beautiful photos.

Avoiding the crowds

Paris is a tourist city: certain sites such as the Trocadero/Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame are very popular. For more intimate shots, we advise you to opt for the low hours if you choose busy locations, i.e. early in the morning around 7:30/8:00 or late in the afternoon around 6:00 in summer.

You can also explore lesser-known photo spots, such as :

  • Rue Crémieux with its colorful houses (Paris XIIe)
  • The Auteuil tropical greenhouse garden (Paris XVIe)
  • Canal Saint-Martin (Xe) for a very Parisian style on the water’s edge
  • The Butte aux Cailles district (street art) or the Square des Peupliers for a bucolic atmosphere (Paris XIIIe)

Adapting clothing style to the chosen location

A haute couture photo shoot won’t have the same impact in the middle of the Auteuil tropical greenhouses as on the forecourt of the Louvre! You’ll need to match your outfits and staging to the visual universe of the chosen venue. We’ll also advise you on the choice of appropriate clothing for the location.

Photo shoot at the Jardin du Luxembourg

Shooting-balades has chosen to immortalize your most beautiful memories in Paris’s Luxembourg Gardens, a magnificent backdrop for romantic, classic and natural photo shoots.

Located in the heart of the 6th arrondissement of Paris, with its linden-lined paths, vast lawns and elegant statues, a hushed atmosphere is revealed as soon as you step into the garden; its calm pools where reflections dance, and the Médicis fountain, a veritable haven of grace and serenity, provide the ideal backdrop to sublimate your images, placed under the sign of Parisian refinement and elegance.

Whether for a fashion, portrait, couple, friends or family photo shoot, the Jardin du Luxembourg is an invitation to photograph beauty in its simplest, most authentic form. The photo shoot will be staged in a chic style, where you can evolve according to your inspirations, either in casual mode without looking out of place, or in a more sophisticated mode, which will be fully in harmony with the decor.

In any case, the Jardin du Luxembourg is an invitation to photograph for your greatest pleasure and for photos that combine beauty, chic and authenticity.

The history of the Jardin du Luxembourg …

The Luxembourg Gardens were created at the initiative of Marie de Médicis, widow of King Henri IV, in the early 17th century. In 1612, wishing to escape the Louvre and its oppressive atmosphere, she had an Italian-style palace built: the Palais du Luxembourg. Around it, she laid out a large Italian garden with terraces, paths and flowerbeds.

Evolution over the centuries

  • In the 18th century, the Jardin du Luxembourg was enlarged and transformed several times. In 1635, André le Nôtre, gardener to King Louis XIV, gave it a more French touch.
  • During the French Revolution, the garden became national property. Some parts are threatened by subdivision, but a large part has been preserved.
  • Under Napoleon Bonaparte and then Napoleon III, the Jardin du Luxembourg was restored, reorganized and enriched with numerous sculptures.

The garden today …

The Palais du Luxembourg is now the seat of the French Senate, and the garden is still managed by the Senate. Covering around 25 hectares, it is a blend of French and English styles, with a wide variety of different vegetation, over 100 sculptures, fountains and children’s play areas.

The Jardin du Luxembourg has inspired many artists, writers and poets, including Victor Hugo in Les Misérables, Paul Verlaine who regularly visited it, and Ernest Hemingway, who took refuge here during his years in Paris.

During a pre-appointment, we will choose one or more locations that match your tastes and, above all, where you will feel supported in developing your inspiration for unique and authentic portraits.

Photo shoots and portrait sessions will almost always be done in natural light, preferably during the summer months, during a themed or non-themed balade, in the capital, off the beaten track, or if you prefer, in front of iconic monuments. If you have a very bright apartment with large bay windows, the shoot can be considered at home.

No fixed poses, everything is fluid; we will guide you to reconnect with your image and your style, for a natural result that reflects you.

We also recommend a light application of makeup for a smoother finish and to enhance your face. For skin that shines in the sun, a mattifying powder is highly recommended.

Shooting-balades offers the timeless charm of Parisian passageways, providing an intimate setting for an enchanting photo shoot! Take advantage of the soft light and beautiful colors of summer to capture magnificent memories off the beaten track.

Take a moment to relax for a fun Shooting-balades in a relaxed atmosphere and good humor. Enjoy the peace and quiet of Paris’s secret passageways with a professional photographer.

We often talk about covered passageways in Paris, but the small, secret outdoor passageways are just as charming, particularly in the 11th, 13th, and 20th arrondissements, to name a few. Most often, they run alongside small houses built in the 20th century to house workers, who thus benefited from moderate rents. They were created when new neighborhoods were built, where labor was plentiful and needed. They provide access to houses and often connect two parallel streets. These are havens of greenery and calm in the heart of the capital, much appreciated by walkers.

Summer is coming! Take the opportunity to book your photo shoot.

Enjoy this photo balade in a timeless atmosphere with a personalized photo shoot. Whether for an individual, couple, or family portrait, we will adapt the session to your wishes and style.

Photo shoots

If you’re going on a photo trip with Shooting-Balades, the first thing you’ll want to do is travel light, so you’ll feel comfortable and won’t be burdened with unnecessary equipment. Here are a few useful tips to help you prepare your camera bag.

Photoboxes

If you have a choice between several cameras, take the one you feel most comfortable with and that matches the photos you want to take. If possible, opt for a large-format sensor, or one offering the best image definition. A hybrid box is also very good. Compact cameras are not recommended, and photos taken with phones during photo trips are not taken into account during debriefings.

On the other hand, it’s not forbidden to take personal photos, selfies and the like with your phone. We rarely use flash, preferring natural light.

Zooms

You can use :

  • A wide-angle lens for landscapes, an 18-50mm or an 18-70 with a 1.8 or 2.8 aperture.
  • A telephoto lens for close-up shots or details (very useful for a photo trip to Morocco) 70-200mm or 70-300mm, if possible with an aperture of 2.8

Memory cards and photo accessories

Shots during the photo trip will be taken in RAW so that files can be edited later. This format requires memory cards with a minimum capacity of 32GB, so plan on at least three for a one-week trip.

  • A laptop computer for viewing your photos (not compulsory)
  • A card reader for downloading photos to your computer
  • Polarizing or UV-neutral filters for lens protection
  • Cleaning kit, camera and lenses (brushes, soft cloth…)
  • Two batteries
  • A battery charger
  • Sunshade
  • Front and rear lens and body caps
  • A tripod for night or low-light photography
  • Operating instructions
  • A waterproof plastic bag, essential in case of rain or sandstorms

It remains for me to wish you a great trip, shoot and bring back beautiful photos !

Today, Shooting-balades has taken a stroll through the picturesque village of Montmartre in Paris and offers you a romantic photo shoot in the steep cobbled streets of the hilltop.

The off-the-beaten-track Montmartre district offers a unique backdrop for a charming stroll through its colorful houses, small cafés, vineyards and famous Château des Brouillards for unforgettable photos!

A photo shoot is also an opportunity to discover a little-known area of Paris in complete serenity, during a stroll accompanied by a professional photographer who will immortalize your precious memories. Enjoy a moment of peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

If we look back at the history of Montmartre, which has become the bohemian district that everyone loves, it begins in the 1860s, when the Butte was annexed to Paris.

Before 1860, Montmartre was a rural district. Following Baron Haussmann’s major construction projects, poor Parisians were driven out of the center of the city. They took refuge in what was to become the Maquis de Montmartre. In those days, housing consisted of wooden shacks – a village of bric-a-brac, where sardine cans were used as locks!

Emile Zola’s “L’Assommoir” aptly describes the “Butte Montmartre” of the time, with its filthy houses and the unsanitary living conditions of its inhabitants.

Aside from Sacré-Coeur, the hilltop also offers a number of unusual and romantic shooting spots, which we’ll discover together on our photo walk.

Contact us today to find out more about the attractions of this walk and book your session with Shooting-balades!

We’d be delighted to accompany you on a new tour of Paris!
